December 26, 2008 (San Diego) — American Idol favorite
and country music chart topper Josh Gracin recently headlined a benefit concert
for Toys for Tots at Barona Valley Ranch Resort & Casino. Barona's toy drive collected
more than 6,500 toys for Toys for Tots, a U.S. Marine Corps Reserve program
that collects new toys for underprivileged children during the holiday season.
"Barona has been a vital partner in San Diego's 2009 Toys for Tots toy drive,"
said Staff Sergeant and Toys for Tots Coordinator Patrick Russ. "On behalf
of Toys for Tots, I would like to thank Barona for its generous donation and
for helping us make the holidays a lot brighter for 57,500 less fortunate children
throughout San Diego. We wouldn't have been able to do it without Barona's
tremendous support."
As the 2009 presenting sponsor for Toys for Tots, Barona donated all concert
proceeds to the charity and encouraged concert guests to bring new and unwrapped
toys. Gracin, who is a former member of the U.S. Marine Corps and was previously
stationed at Camp Pendleton, returned to San Diego to perform a live acoustic
set for the benefit concert.
