FORMS IN METAL EXHIBITION OPENS IN HYDE ART GALLERY AT GROSSMONT COLLEGE

January 14, 2008 (El Cajon) — To mark the 1st anniversary
of the opening of its new, state-of-the-art Sculpture facility, the Hyde Art
Gallery at Grossmont College will host Forms in Metal , a
group exhibition of contemporary metalwork from January 26-February 26; An
opening event is scheduled for February 10th from 7-9 p.m.

The exhibition will feature the work of seventeen artists engaged in the production
of metal objects of utility, ceremony, and ornament. Forms in Metal will
explore the means by which each artist manipulates metal and makes use of it
as a vehicle to convey a wide range of personal experiences, concerns, interests,
and ideas. The work exhibited underscores the possibilities inherent in metal
as a medium of artistic expression.

Forms in MetalShowcasing a variety of techniques, from fabrication and casting to fusing, forging, and enameling, the jewelry, vessels, and sculptural forms included in Forms in Metal are indicative of the breadth and diversity of contemporary American metalwork.

Culled from local and distant studios, this group of established and emerging
artists converges in celebration of ideas, materials, and processes. These
artists embrace tradition, as well as the new and the now; they are stewards
of their practice. Working in and around disciplines explored in this exhibition,
these artists collectively engage in a wide range of contemporary visual art
genres. Participating artists include Sue Amendolara, D.J. Brelje, Harlan Butt,
David Clemons, Gerald Dumlao, Toby Flores, Tom Fox, Jack Gron, Mark Herndon,
Conor Hollis, Erik Johnson, Lisa Medlen, Jessica Mohl, Ingrid Psuty, Dave Seiler,
Helen Shirk, and Jim Wilsterman.

Forms in MetalTogether with its new Sculpture facility, the exhibition Forms in Metal affirms Grossmont College's commitment to continuing the tradition of contemporary metalwork, and to contributing to the vitality and ongoing development of the disciplines of Jewelry Design/Metalsmithing, Sculpture, and Art in the Public Context.

The Sculpture facility will host an Open House in Building 23 around the corner
from the gallery during the Opening Event. Grossmont College is located
at 8800 Grossmont Colelge Drive, El Cajon, CA 92020-1799. Hyde Art Gallery
is open from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday and Thursday, and from 10 a.m. to
8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday. The gallery is closed Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays
and holidays.
