September 11, 2012 (Santee) -- Don’t pass up a chance to relax on a bale of hay under the soft glow of moonlight with live bluegrass music playing in the background.

Santee is offering adults a chance to have a great night out with gourmet food and spirits while simultaneously supporting the local teen center at the recession-busting price of $35 per person.

The Santee Bluegrass Festival returns Sept. 22 to Town Center Community Park with the same crowd-pleasing formula: toe-tapping music played to an audience pampered with fine wine, micro-brewed beer and tasty treats prepared by local restaurants.

“Aside from a stellar evening of food and entertainment, this event provides critical funding for the Santee Teen Center,” said Cherie Meek, Santee’s special events supervisor. “Our teens need your support, even if you’re not into whining, dining or bluegrass.”

Back by popular demand, the musical lineup features two of the county’s most talented bluegrass bands, Box Canyon and The Tail Draggers.

Steve Spiker of Box Canyon offered this appraisal after last year’s event: “All the guys had a great time, and the festival is by far the best event anywhere in the county.”

Last year, more than 700 people attended the festival, which raised more than $20,000 for the Santee Teen Center and the Recreation Scholarship Program, which provides financial assistance to qualifying Santee residents to participate in park and recreation programs.

Admission entitles ticket holders to sample several varieties of wine, beer from numerous micro- breweries, and food prepared by local restaurants. In addition to the all-you-can eat menu, festival attendees will receive a commemorative glass.

Beyond the music and libations, the event includes a silent auction featuring a wide range of quality gifts donated for the cause. Attendees can bid on such items as a pair of round trip JetBlue airline tickets, a Taylor solid body electric guitar and a baseball signed by Padre first baseman Yonder Alonso.

The festival runs from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at 550 Park Center Drive, Santee, CA 92071. Advance tickets are $35 per person; tickets purchased at the door are $40. A designated driver ticket will be available for purchase at the door.
