9/11 REMEMBRANCES AT GROSSMONT AND CUYAMACA COLLEGES

September 8, 2015 (El Cajon)--A 9/11 commemoration organized by State Sen. Joel Anderson’s staff is set for 10:30-11:30 a.m. Friday at Grossmont College’s Main Quad. Speaking will be Grossmont College President Nabil Abu-Ghazaleh, Cal Fire Battalion Chief Jeff Lannon, El Cajon Mayor Bill Wells, El Cajon Councilman Bob McClellan, MCAS Miramar Chaplain Wayne (Bob) Freiberg, and Steele Canyon High School’s ASB President Trevor Krantz.

At Cuyamaca College, the Associated Student Government leaders are seeking volunteers to help create a display of 2,977 flags to pay tribute to all the victims of the day’s terrorist acts. The small flags will be inserted into the Grand Lawn starting at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, in preparation for a small memorial ceremony set for 11 a.m. Friday, Sept.11. Governing Board Student Trustee Evan Esparza and a representative of the college’s student veterans organization will speak. Following the speeches, attendees will be invited to tie yellow ribbons on the flags.

Preparation of the flag display and commemorations are free and open to the public.

Grossmont College is at 8800 Grossmont College Drive in El Cajon.

Cuyamaca College is at 900 Rancho San Diego Parkway in the community of Rancho San Diego.
