January 12, 2009 (El Cajon)--The Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District (GCCCD) is conducting a practice exercise with local public safety agencies on Tuesday, January 12, 2010, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Cuyamaca College. The GCCCD Police, San Diego County Sheriffs’ Department, San Miguel Fire Department, El Cajon Police Department, El Cajon Fire Department, and other East County agencies will conduct a simulation of an incident involving an active shooter.

The purpose of this exercise is to "evaluate emergency management procedures involving multiple local agencies in cooperation with GCCCD Police," according to a press release issued by the Sheriff  The objectives are to address Communications, Response Procedures and Incident Command between local law enforcement and fire agencies.

There will be some movement of emergency vehicles around campus. There will also be radio broadcasts of “shots fired” and “victims down”. However, this is not a tactical exercise and there will not be role players and there will not be a tactical response by law enforcement or fire rescue. The drill is designed to test communications and Incident Command protocol. The radio traffic will be driven by a “simulation cell” not by actual responders on the scene.

At a future date yet to be determined, Cuyamaca Community College will be conducting a full scale exercise and the press will be invited.  Cuyamaca College is located at 900 Rancho San Diego Parkway, El Cajon, California 92019.
