March 4, 2012 (Jacumba) --On February 14, U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Boulevard Station collaborated with San Diego Sector Air Mobile Unit to conduct anti-smuggling operations in Jacumba.

At approximately 2:00 p.m., agents observed a suspicious vehicle traveling along Old Highway 80. Agents stopped the vehicle and questioned the driver and occupants. A field investigation revealed that both subjects were United States citizens in the area attempting to smuggle illegal aliens.

During the incident, agents apprehended a group of illegal aliens in close proximity to the traffic stop. During questioning, the undocumented Mexican nationals identified the 36-year-old male United States citizen driver of the vehicle as the person who would pick them up.

Agents searched the suspected smuggling conveyance and discovered a concealed, loaded Ruger 9mm pistol, located within hands’ reach of the driver’s seat.

Agents arrested the suspected smugglers and the group of aliens, who were transported to the Boulevard Border Patrol Station for processing and further investigation.
