November 18, 2015 - After ISIS released a video vowing that it would attack several other major cities worldwide, including Washington, D.C., the hacker group Anonymous released its own video stating that its members would unleash "waves of attacks" on the terrorist group, CBS News reports. ISIS is also known as ISIL, the Islamic State, or by the Arabic acronym Daesh.
A YouTube video portraying a masked man speaking French warned ISIS that the hacker group has declared war on ISIS and to prepare themselves. After the Paris terror attacks, Anonymous posted its iconic image on Twitter with colors of the French flag superimposed.
ISIS' response to the video was to call Anonymous "idiots" and to help its supporters defend against Anonymous' cyber-attacks.
On Sunday, the hacker group claimed to have seized over 3,800 Twitter accounts ran by people in support of ISIS. On Monday, Anonymous said it has hacked and seized over 5,500 ISIS Twitter accounts.
Anonymous has been fighting ISIS for some time; earlier this year, the group hacked almost 150 websites that were suspected of links to ISIS, according to a report by Foreign Policy.
