January 6, 2013 (Lemon Grove)--The Lemon Grove Historical Society, in cooperation with the San Diego County Library System, will present a new "Art Talk" showcasing the art of Kathleen Strzelecki on Saturday, Jan. 11 from 2 - 4 p.m. in the Rosemary Putnam Community Room of the Lemon Grove Library, 3001 School Lane.

The conversation with Strzelecki will be moderated by Helen Ofield, curator of the Parsonage Museum of Lemon Grove, and will include a private tour of the artist's solo exhibition, "An American Family," on view in the library Monday - Saturday during library hours through Jan. 31.

Working in oils and mixed media, Strzelecki creates powerful, large scale individual and group portraits characterized by rich coloration, densely layered brush strokes and use of collage.  The exhibition, which includes portraits of members of her own family, is notable for its emotional impact, unsparing approach to portraiture, and special ability to capture the mercurial nature of childhood.

Strzelecki was the lead artist on the recently-completed Lemon Grove History Mural, an eight-year undertaking involving five life-size panels installed on the exterior wall of 3308 Main Street, the city's most historic commercial building.  She also created a single mural for the City of La Mesa and has received awards in numerous juried exhibitions.  She is the daughter of Vernon and Margaret Allen, both former protégés of Frank Lloyd Wright, and was trained at the Chouinard Institute and privately in San Francisco.  She maintains a studio in Lemon Grove.

The "Art Talk" is free and suitable for ages 13 and over.  Refreshments will be served.  For more information, call 619-463-0823.
