September 11, 2010 (El Cajon ) - The 21st Invitational Art Exhibit at St. Clair Gallery, featuring over 165 pieces of fine art, runs through September 17. An artists’ reception will be held on September 12 from 3 to 6 p.m. Admission is free.

Kathleen McCarthy is showing at St. Clair Gallery for the first time in this exhibit. "Kathleen is an exceptional artist working in the medium of scratchboard," says gallery director Howard Bagley.

He added, "Her work shows delightful intricacies in the art and craft of etching which she combines with great simplicity in her design. The result is a stunning work of art."

McCarthy’s introduction to art came in 2002 when she was encouraged to attend an adult education drawing class. Discovering this gift and talent led to winning awards and selling her artwork within the first year.

Her art education continued at Cuyamaca College and various workshops. Membership in the Art Alliance of Idyllwild and Foothills Art Association, as well as other art associations, has helped build her knowledge and perfect her technique. This continued growth has now placed Kathleen's art in galleries and private collections across America. After trying several media, she fell in love with the more uncommon form of art known as Scratchboard.

An example is Flamingo, a 36 by 24 inch piece valued at $2,060.00. This work includes the addition of red ink to enhance the etching.

St. Clair Gallery is located upstairs in the East County Business Center, 270 East Douglas Avenue in El Cajon.
