Meet the Artist Thursday March 15, 5 pm to 8 pm

March 8, 2012 (La Mesa)--Israeli-born artist Atara-Baker has brought her African Mask Series to O'Dunn Fine Art in La Mesa. This body of work centers on color and the primeval, inspired by the integrated tribal lifestyle and artifacts of the original South Africans, the San people of the Kalahari.

Large and small oil paintings with collage elements and found objects, painting collages on paper (framed and unframed), and wall-mounted sculptures are included in Atara-Baker's exhibition and sale.

The artist studied under sculptor Emilio Greco at the Accademia Della Arte in Rome, in South Africa at the Johannesburg College of Art, and at the Art Students League in New York.  Her works are in private collections across the United States, and in South Africa.

In Atara-Baker’s own words, this African Mask Series has “…evolved (as)…an interpretation of my life experiences in two diverse cultures that share an intense and politically volatile relationship to the land; in Israel, where I was born and bred, and in South Africa where I was exposed to the many inequities of life and differing artistic philosophies”.

The public is welcome to meet this fascinating artist, and learn more about her and the special esthetic she brings to her work at a hosted event on Thursday, March 15: O’Dunn Fine Art, 8325 La Mesa Boulevard, in La Mesa Village (odunnfineart.com), 619-337-8342.
