March 24, 2017 (San Diego) - The San Diego State track and field team won three events in the opening day of the 39th annual Aztec Invitational Friday.

The two-day event saw SDSU take three of the top five spots in the 100-meter hurdles open, with senior Micha Auzenne capturing gold with a 13.45 time in her season debut in the event. Sophomore Sierra Brabham-Lawrence was second (13.63), while freshman Andrenette Knight, in her first 100 hurdles collegiate showing, was third at 13.73. Kassidy Ellis, also making her 2017 debut in the event, was fifth (14.70).

San Diego State’s lone competitor in the 400 meters open, junior transfer Monique McPherson paced the field at 55.78 in her first showing in the 400 as an Aztec.

Junior Jasmine Young won the first event of her collegiate career in the 400-meter hurdles open with a 1:04.12 mark.

In the 200 open, sophomore Lisa-Anne Barrow was the Scarlet and Black’s top finisher at fourth with a 24.88 time. Lakin Hatcher (5th, 25.30) and Sierra Brabham-Lawrence (7th, 25.83) rounded out the Aztecs’ finishers.

Junior Lily Seynaeve had a career day in the 3,000 meters open, taking fourth with a collegiate-best 9:56.77 for the 11th-fastest mark in program history. Senior Christine Kent trailed slightly, crossing the finish line in 9:58.09 for fifth. Also competing for the Aztecs were Elaine Ribeiro (10th, 10:08.67), Cassidy Towner (13th, 10:18.84) and, making their collegiate debuts in the event, Angel Bucci (15th, 10:26.32) and Mary Kunigan (24th, 11:39.55).

The pole vault open saw sophomore Sara Curran take fourth (12-00.25).

San Diego State kicks off the second and final day of competition Saturday, March 25 with the javelin throw at UC San Diego at 9 a.m. SDSU’s first track event of the day, the 4x100-meter relay, is atop SDSU Sports Deck at 9:30 a.m.
