June 13, 2017 (San Diego) - San Diego State women’s basketball and the Mountain West have announced the Aztecs’ league schedule for the upcoming 2017-18 season.

Each team in the conference plays eight of the other 10 teams twice and plays two opponents once. This year, the Aztecs will not host Utah State, nor will they travel to New Mexico.

San Diego State’s conference slate opens with a tough stretch of games played at altitude. For the second time in three years, the Aztecs’ conference lid lifter is at Wyoming on Thursday, Dec. 28. With 22 wins in 2016-17, the Cowgirls notched the seventh-most victories in program history after advancing to the second round of the Women’s National Invitational Tournament (WNIT).

SDSU travels to Logan, Utah for a battle against Utah State on Saturday, Dec. 30. The Aggies finished sixth in the MW standing, their highest position since joining the conference.

The Scarlet and Black makes its home conference debut versus Colorado State, the MW regular season champion, on Wednesday, Jan. 3. The Rams won their fourth-consecutive Mountain West regular season title in 2017, a first for any MW men’s or women’s basketball program.

Following its first bye of the conference schedule, San Diego State ventures up the coast to take on San Jose State for a midweek matchup on Wednesday, Jan. 10. The Aztecs will seek revenge in the contest, as the Spartans topped SDSU in the first round of the 2017 MW Championship to cut San Diego State’s season short.

San Diego State hosts the 2017 MW Championship champion, Boise State, on Sat., Jan. 13. The Broncos earned their second NCAA Tournament bid in three years last season behind a 10-game win streak heading into the postseason.

SDSU takes to the road for a showdown at in-state rival Fresno State on Wednesday, Jan. 17. The No. 7 seed in the MW Championship, the Bulldogs advanced to the Championship’s title game for the second-consecutive season, tying for the lowest seed to reach the championship game.

New Mexico is next on the schedule for the Aztecs, who visit America’s Finest City on Saturday, Jan. 20. The Lobos finished 2016-17 with an even 15-15 mark, falling in the MW Championship quarterfinals on a last-second shot by Boise State.

Following a tilt at Colorado State on Wednesday, Jan. 24, SDSU welcomes UNLV to town on Saturday, Jan. 27. The Rebels will return four starters from its 2016-17 squad that secured a bid to the WNIT and ended the year with a 22-11 record.

After their second bye of the conference calendar, the Aztecs head to Colorado Springs, Colo., for a Saturday tilt versus Air Force. The 2016-17 Falcons quadrupled its win total from the previous year in head coach Chris Gobrecht’s second year at the helm.

SDSU then enjoys a two-game home stand with games against Fresno State on Wednesday, Feb. 7 and Nevada on Saturday, Feb. 10. First-year head coach Amanda Levens will lead the Wolf Pack, who finished the 2016-17 campaign 11-19 and were the No. 10 seed in the MW Championship.

The Scarlet and Black next hits the road for games at Wyoming on Wednesday, Feb. 14 and UNLV on Saturday, Feb. 17.

The Aztecs will return to the comfortable confines of Viejas Arena following that two-game stretch for their final two home games of the regular season. Air Force flies into San Diego for a contest on Wednesday, Feb. 21. SDSU’s final home appearance of the regular season is on Saturday, Feb. 24 versus San Jose State.

San Diego State concludes the regular season with games at Boise State on Tues., Feb. 27 and Nevada on Friday, March 2.

The MW Championship, hosted by the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, is slated to kick off on Monday, March 5, with the championship game on tap for Friday, March 9.

Times for the conference games and non-conference contests will be announced at a later date.
