October 1, 2016 (San Diego) - San Diego State got back on the winning track with a three-set victory (25-19, 26-24, 25-22) over Air Force Saturday night at Clune Arena in Colorado Springs, Colo. The win was the sixth in the last eight matches for the Aztecs, who improved to 10-7 overall and 2-1 in the Mountain West.

Alexandra Psoma led San Diego State with 14 kills and also had a .400 hitting percentage over the three sets along with four digs and a block.

Deja Harris also ended the evening in double figures in kills with 11 and turned in a .444 attack mark. She led all players with a personal season-high seven blocks and also chipped in with a dig and service ace.

In addition, Emma Fuzie recorded eight kills plus three blocks, Alexis Cage had five blocks with eight digs and setter Indigo Thompson notched 44 assists for an average of over 14 per set in the match.

In the opening set, SDSU went ahead at 3-2 and held the lead over the remainder of the contest. The largest advantage was seven points at 23-16 as the Aztecs went on to the six-point set win. Harris led the visitors with four kills while Psoma and Ashlynn Dunbar had three apiece.

Set number two was a tighter affair that saw San Diego State trailing 22-18 before fighting back to knot the score at 24-24. From there, a service ace by Danielle Bolden and a kill by Psoma gave the Aztecs the set win. The latter ended the set with nine kills on a .583 hitting percentage to pace the Aztec offense.

After the break, the Falcons (9-8, 0-4 MW) came out charged up for the third set as they ran out to a quick 5-1 lead only to see SDSU answer with four straight points to tie it up at 5-all. The contest remained close and was tied at 16-16 when the Aztecs scored back-to-back points to take the lead for good.

Air Force remained close until, with the Aztecs up 22-21, SDSU got points on a pair of kills by Psoma plus a service ace by Devyn Pritchard to claim the set and match win. Fuzie’s five kills along with four blocks from Harris helped carry the Aztecs to victory.

San Diego State will now return home to prepare for a pair of conference home contests this coming week that starts with a match against Fresno State on Thursday, Oct. 6, at 6:00 p.m. on Aztec Court.
