October 18, 2016 (San Diego) - San Diego State senior running back Donnel Pumphrey (Las Vegas) has been named a CBS Sports Midseason All-American, CBSSports.com announced Tuesday. Pumphrey is one of only four unanimous selections on the team, which was voted on by a panel of college football experts from CBSSports.com and 247Sports.com.

Through six games, Pumphrey has rushed for 1,111 yards and 11 touchdowns on 167 carries (6.7 avg.), while also leading the team with 18 catches for 131 yards (7.3 avg.). Pumphrey leads the nation in rushing yards (1,111), rushing yards per game (185.17) and all-purpose yards per game (207.00), and is tied for second in rushing touchdowns (11), fourth in rushing yards per carry (6.65, min. 100 att.) and tied for fourth in overall touchdowns (11).

Pumphrey’s 1,111 rushing yards are 169 more than the next player in one less game, while his 185.2 yards per game are more than 72 other FBS teams and would rank 57th in the country as a “team.” He has three games this year with at least 220 yards, including 281 vs. California (second nationally), and 220 at Northern Illinois and Fresno State (14th nationally), while no other player has more than one 220-yard game.

Pumphrey enters Friday’s game with San José State ranked eighth all-time in NCAA FBS history in rushing yards (5,383), tied for 12th in overall touchdowns (61) and tied for 13th in rushing scores (56). Pumphrey has broken four of Marshall Faulk’s SDSU career records this year, including rushing yards (5,383), 100-yard rushing games (27), all-purpose yards (6,387) and attempts (877), and tied another (three, 1,000-yard seasons).

Pumphrey joins Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson, Michigan linebacker Jabrill Peppers and Arizona State kicker Zane Gonzalez as the only unanimous selections on the 27-member team (11 on offense, 11 on defense, 5 on special teams). Additionally, Pumphrey and Western Michigan wide receiver Corey Davis are the only two representatives from a Group of 5 school.

Off to its best start since 1977, San Diego State (5-1, 2-0 MW) welcomes San José State (2-5, 1-2 MW) to Qualcomm Stadium for a 7:30 p.m. PT Friday game.
