October 10, 2017 (San Diego) - Several San Diego State men’s basketball players earned individual preseason recognition in Lindy’s Sports College Basketball magazine, which has senior guard Trey Kell as one of four players on the cover.

Kell and classmate Malik Pope were both preseason all-conference first-team selections by the publication, while Devin Watson, a transfer from San Francisco, is a member of the preseason all-MW third team.

Pope, additionally, is ranked as the 22nd-best power forward in the country and listed as the Mountain West’s “Most Entertaining” player.

Freshman guard Jordan Schakel is listed as the “Best Shooter” among the conference newcomers after leading his high school team, Bishop Montgomery, to the CIF State Open Division title last season.

In a preview of the 2017-18 Aztecs, Lindy’s singled out redshirt freshman Jalen McDaniels a player to “keep an eye on.” The 6-10 forward was named the preseason Mountain West Freshman of the Year going into the 2016-17 campaign before he decided to redshirt.

As a team, Lindy’s Sports predicts that San Diego State will be in the NCAA tournament conversation come Selection Sunday in mid-March.

SDSU is in the midst of its preseason preparations and will be in action on Nov. 2 when it plays host to UC San Diego in its lone exhibition game of the season. The Aztecs officially open the campaign on Nov. 10 when cross-town foe San Diego Christian visits Steve Fisher Court at Viejas Arena.
