SDSU won all six singles matches

March 7, 2020 (San Diego) - San Diego State women's tennis team collected a 6-1 victory over the Grand Canyon University Lopes in a Saturday matinee at Aztec Tennis Center March 7.

GCU would win its only matches of the day in doubles play, led by Weiss and Puehse's 6-3 win on court one over sophomore Alicia Melosch and senior Mia Smith. The Aztecs opened with a 6-1 decision on court two as junior Tamara Arnold and freshman Julia Jordan topped Grand Canyon's Occhipinti and Lo Pumo. The Lopes secured the point with a 6-3 victory over the third-seeded SDSU duo of junior Nnena Nadozie and freshman Cécile Morin.                            

The res8 Saturday's action was dominated by the Scarlet and Black. Morin rebounded from her doubles decision with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Lo Pumo to earn the Aztecs' first point. Arnold followed with a 6-0, 6-2 domination of Puehse on court two while Jordan added the third point for SDSU with a 6-1, 6-2 victory on court four, topping Grand Canyon's Weiss. Melosch sealed the match for the Aztecs fighting off a comeback attempt by the Lopes' Infantino on court three, winning the first set 6-1, falling in the second set 1-6, and dominating in the third set 6-3.

Also earning wins for San Diego State were Nadozie and sophomore Agustina Rimoldi Godoy. Godoy won a 6-2, 7-5 battle on court six over Prudhomme while Nadozie, with the match decided in favor, topped Occhipinti in a 10-point tiebreaker for a 6-3, 4-5, 10-4 decision.

THE STAT

The Aztecs ended a three-game losing streak with their win Saturday, winning their first dual in the month of March.

UP NEXT

The Aztecs quickly turn around and host the University of San Diego Toreros on Tuesday, March 10. Play is set to start at 2 p.m.
