November 10, 2019 (San Diego) - San Diego State women’s tennis completed its 2019 fall schedule with the conclusion of the SDSU Fall Classic II Sunday. The Aztecs collected five singles wins during their final taste of competition before their 2020 spring campaign.

Doubles action was not friendly to the Aztecs Sunday, with all four tandems dropping decisions in their respective matches. Junior Nnena Nadozie and sophomore Alicia Melosch fell 6-2 to Stanford’s Mossmer/Madurawe to finish second in the red draw, while sophomore Agustina Rimoldi Godoy and freshman Cecilé Morin suffered a 6-2 decision when taking on Denver’s Meville/Change in the black draw’s championship match.  Freshman Julia Jordan and junior Tamara Arnold succumbed to a 6-3 loss to Denver’s Verde-Anderson/Riedmiller to collect a runner-up effort in the white draw. In the same draw, senior Mia Smith and junior Abbie Mulbarger fell in their championship consolation match 6-3 to Montana’s Goheen/Bostrom.

In singles play, all four Aztecs in the white draw earned wins Sunday, while Rimoldi Godoy secured the consolation championship in the black draw. Arnold defeated Stanford’s Madurawe 6-4, 7-6 (1), Nadozie topped Denver’s Riedmiller 6-2, 6-1, Morin bested Denver’s Mevillle in a three-set battle, 5-7, 6-0, 10-7, and Smith earned a victory over Eastern Washington’s Nelson 6-3, 4-6, 11-9. In the black draw, Rimoldi Godoy earned her victory in the consolation finals with a 1-6, 6-0, 10-3 defeat of UC Irvine’s Amiri.

The red draw saw both Melosch and Jordan fall to members of the University of Denver, as Melosch dropped a 7-5, 7-6 (1) decision to Pursell while Jordan came up on the short end of a 6-3, 6-2 defeat. Mulbarger had the same fate in the black draw, unable to hold onto an early match lead, eventually falling 4-6, 7-6 (11), 10-5.

SDSU next competes on the court in 2020 when they take on UC Riverside Sat. Jan 25 at the Aztec Tennis Center.
