Junior Nnena Nadozie continued her singles win streak, is undefeated during the spring season

February 8, 2020 (Long Beach) - San Diego State women’s tennis suffered a 4-1 loss to Long Beach State Saturday in Long Beach.  Junior Nnena Nadozie was the bright spot for the Aztecs as she continued her singles win streak, individually moving to 4-0 to start the spring season.

All three Aztec duos fell in doubles action. Usually paired with Nadozie, sophomore Alicia Melosch and freshman Julia Jordan were topped by Long Beach State’s Rutkowska and Bardet 2-6. Junior Abbie Mulbarger and senior Mia Smith conceded a 6-2 match to the home team’s Sadeghuaziri and Devarakonda.

Entering singles play down 1-0, Nadozie started off singles play strong for the Aztecs with a 6-3, 6-0 drubbing of Bardet. As the day continued, the rest of the Scarlet and Black didn’t see the same success, as sophomore Agustina Rimoldi Godoy dropped a 6-3, 6-1 decision to Devarakonda to put the Sharks up 2-1. Freshman Cècile Moran fought hard in her first set but couldn’t seal the deal, falling 7-6 (2), 6-1 to put CSULB within one of clinching the win. Jordan clawed back from a first-set 6-3 loss to win her second set, 6-4, but Rutowska won the battle with a third-set 6-3 victory and gave Long Beach State the match.

THE NOTE

It has been 326 days since Nadozie last lost a regular-season (not including fall season or incomplete matches) singles match. Her last loss was in a 10-point tiebreaker against Yale’s Raissa Lou where she fell 3-6, 7-6 (2), 10-4.

UP NEXT

The Aztecs return to action next Saturday as they host Cal State Fullerton at home. Play is set to begin at 11 a.m.
