Suspect pleads not guilty to attempted murder

September 27, 2012 (El Cajon )—The San Diego Blood Bank seeks blood donations for San Diego Sheriff Detective Ali Perez, who is in critical condition after being shot with a high-powered rifle yesterday during an attempted arrest in Lakeside.
NBC news reports that following nine hours of surgery for wounds to his abdomen and shoulder, Perez was in a medically induced coma but later emerged to give a thumbs-up sign.
Perez has O+ blood, but any blood type will be accepted and credited to his account.To donate, go to any San Diego Blood Bank and provide this code: CODE: DSVF. Detective Perez will receive all the donations that he needs and the cost/availability will be offset by the donations.
Sergeant Craig Johnson, who was also shot during the same incident, is recovering but will also have a long road ahead of him, the El Cajon Collaborative indicated. NBC news has indicated that Johnson could be released from the hospital as early as Friday.
The shooter, Daniel Witczak, also remains hospitalized with gunshot wounds. Today he pled not guilty to three counts of attempted murder. The officers were attempted to take Witczak into custody on suspected child abuse when he opened fire on the officers.
