December 5, 2010 (Lakeside) – Yesterday afternoon, investigators following- up leads in the case of missing 17-year-old Christopher Cory Carioscia discovered a male body in a remote area on the Barona reservation.

Carioscia, who was a student at El Capitan High School and lived with his mother in Lakeside, disappeared October 27th. His burned vehicle was later found on the reservation, where the investigation has focused.

The area was processed as a crime scene late last night and this morning. Officials have not yet positively identified the body or cause of death pending an autopsy, which is scheduled for tomorrow. However the San Diego union-Tribune reports that family members have been informed by authorities that they believe the body is that of the missing teen.

“They pretty much identified him from his jewelry -- a watch and jewelry," an aunt, Elizabeth Carioscia of Lombard, Ill., told the Union-Tribune in a phone interview today.

Mickey Carioscia, the boy's grandfather, said he had a phone call from the boy's father shortly after midnight Sunday. “He told me that police had found his body in a canyon,” Mickey Carioscia said.

Dennis Brugos, a Sheriff’s homicide investigator, has told media that Christopher Carioscia has had drug problems in the past. But his grandfather called Christopher “a terrific kid.”

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Homicide Detail at (858) 974-2321/after hours at (858) 565-5200 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-TIPS(8477).
