July 29, 2023 (Aguanga, CA) – The #Bonny Fire in Aguanga has grown to 2,069 acres and is threatening 632 structures, Cal Fire reports this morning. The fire is 5% contained but is burning in extremely rugged, steep terrain. Escalating temperatures today pose challenges for firefighters, and one firefighter injury is reported. A chance of thunderstorms this afternoon heightens risk of erratic fire behavior.
Firefighters continue to construct containment lines around the perimeter while providing structure defense.
An evacuation center has been set up at Hamilton High School, 57430 Mitchell Rd. in Anza.
Cal Fire earlier reported on road closures along portions of Chihuahua Valley Rd. However, Hawk Watch Winery in Warner Springs, just a few miles from Aguanga, posted on Facebook today that the winery remains open, stating, “Contrary to reports on the Bonny Fire road closures, Chihuahua Valley Road is open. Our road is clear and open to traffic. We received some rain last night and more this morning, which is helping with the fire control effort. At present the fire is moving away from us and heading into open BLM land to the east.”
