February 15, 2011 (San Diego’s East County) – Rain is forecast starting Wednesday, with snow levels dropping to around 4,000 feet Wednesday night. The weather will break Thursday, but another storm system will bring heavy rain and mountain snow Friday night and Saturday, with scattered showers Sunday, the National Weather Service predicts.
Wind gusts over 50 mph are expected Wednesday afternoon and evening at higher elevations and mountain passes. Six to ten inches of snowfall will occur over 7,000 feet in Southern California mountains, with four to eight inches above 5,500 feet and lesser depths down to 4,000 feet. Thundershowers may also occur in some portions of the county.
Up to two inches of rain may occur Wednesday in some county locations such as mountain slopes. In inland valleys and along the coast, one-quarter to three-quarters of an inch of precipitation is forecast, with a quarter inch or less in desert areas.
