Westbound I-8 Ramps Closed Monday Night

SAN DIEGO – Motorists are advised that Caltrans crews have scheduled several ramp and lane closures on westbound Interstate 8 (I-8) on Monday from 10 p.m.-5 a.m. for restriping and removal of temporary concrete barriers.  The work is part of the Interstate 5 (I-5)/I-8 Connector Project.

The westbound I-8 connector ramp to southbound I-5 will be fully closed.

Crews will close two lanes on westbound I-8 beginning at Taylor Street to the I-5 connector.  No access will be available at the Taylor Street on-ramp and the Morena Boulevard on- and off-ramps.

A lane will be closed on the westbound I-8 connector ramp to northbound I-5 leaving one lane open.

The detour for westbound I-8 to southbound I-5 is to continue west to southbound State Route 163 and then to southbound I-5.

Westbound motorists can also take northbound I-5 to SeaWorld Drive to connect to southbound I-5.

Travelers are reminded to allow for extra travel time due to high traffic volumes in this area even in the evening hours.

The I-5/I-8 Connector Project will add a lane on westbound I-8 at the connector ramp to northbound I-5, and an additional northbound lane and auxiliary lane on I-5 from the interchange north to Sea World Drive.  The project is scheduled to be completed this summer.

More information about the project is available at www.dot.ca.gov/dist11/facts and at http://www.keepsandiegomoving.com/Connectors/connectorsintroduction.aspx.
