January 4, 2009 (El Cajon) – Just before 9:00 a.m. this morning, Heartland Deputy Fire Chief Rick Sitta was first on scene of a collision between a Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) bus and a small car at the intersection of Douglas Avenue and Van Houten Avenue in El Cajon.

As Heartland Fire & Rescue crews from El Cajon responded, Chief Sitta broke open a side rear window to gain access to the driver, who was found not breathing, and initiated emergency aid.

Arriving emergency crews from had to use the jaws-of-life to extricate the seriously injured driver from his vehicle. He was then transported to Sharp Memorial Hospital’s trauma center. Two people on board the transit bus were transported with injuries, including one in serious condition.

The area of Van Houten and Douglas Avenues were closed for a few hours following the collision, but have now been reopened. MTS Transit officials and El Cajon Police are investigating the cause of the collision.

More information and Updates

Need more information plus an update...
Most importantly how is the driver and the passengers ?.

How did it happen ? Who's fault ?
In the pictures I am seeing the bus in what is the parking lot, facing the wrong direction right ?, and it didn't hit any parked cars on the street ?,k did it go around that corner then pull into the parking lot ?. what ?
The car is completely on the wrong side of the road facing backwards.
Knowing the area, bus route and seeing the wreckage, seems to me the car was the problem.
At first guess and glance.

info on condition of accident victims

Is hard to obtain now due to new privacy laws that prevent hospitals and doctors from disclosing patient info.  The only thing we can confirm is that there were no deaths, which would be reported to the coroner.

I wlll forward your question for more info on cause of the accident to the El Cajon Police, and post a response if we receive one. Thanks.
