CELL PHONE THEFTS AT SDSU

October 8, 2016 (San Diego) – Campus police at San Diego State University have issued an alert warning of cell phone thefts on Aztec Walk that occurred on October 2 and again on October 6.

Below is the full bulletin including descriptions of the suspects:

Date:    10-06-16                                  

Incident:  Grand Theft Person

Location:  5700 Aztec Walk, in San Diego

Time:  9:00 PM

Summary:

An SDSU student was walking on Aztec Walk towards the Calpulli Center on the SDSU campus.  At this time, two males approached her asking to borrow her cellphone.  Suspect #1 took the phone out of the victim’s hands.  Suspect #2 took the cellphone from Suspect #1.  The suspect(s) both fled on foot toward Hardy Avenue, in San Diego.  The victim was uninjured and the cellphone is still outstanding.

On Sunday, October 2, 2016, a similar incident occurred.  The details, circumstances, and descriptions reported to police are similar.  Therefore, as required by the Clery Act, this Community Safety Alert is issued for your information.

San Diego State University Police Department is investigating both incidents.

Suspects:

The victims in both cases provided police the following descriptions:    


Suspect #1: A slender African-American male, about 20 years of age, about 6 feet in height, with buzzed, short black hair, and wearing a black/gray shirt, red basketball shorts, and light colored tennis shoes.

Suspect #2: An African-American male, about 20 years of age, with buzzed, short black hair, and wearing a gray zipper hoodie, blue jeans, and dark colored tennis shoes.

Prevention Tips:  Remain aware of your surroundings.  Walk in well-lighted areas designed for pedestrian use, such as walkways and sidewalks.  Report suspicious activity by calling 9-1-1.  Use caution when approached by someone you are unfamiliar with asking to borrow your cellphone.
