March 10, 2016 (San Diego) - The first day of NFL free agency was on Wednesday, and the Chargers wasted no time in making deals.

Tight end Antonio Gates is staying with the Bolts, signing a two-year contract.  However, the Chargers are losing the other key tight end, Ladarius Green, who, according to Adam Schefter, is set to sign a deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Wednesday was all about beefing up the offense.  The Bolts signed former Cleveland Browns wide-out Travis Benjamin to a four-year contract worth $24 million and $13 million in guarantees, according to ESPN and other media.

However, while most of the work was done on the offensive side, the Chargers also worked on their defense.  They signed ex-Seattle Seahawks nose tackle Brandon Mebane to a three-year deal.

Lastly, the Bolts added to the secondary, signing former Indianapolis Colts safety Dwight Lowery and re-signing Jahleel Addae.
