June 1, 2018 (El Cajon) - The City of El Cajon proudly invites the community to celebrate the Grand Opening of the new El Cajon Animal Shelter on Saturday, June 2, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. The $10 million state-of-the-art facility was funded by Proposition O, a voter-approved temporary sales tax used to finance the construction of the police station and the shelter.
Mayor Bill Wells said, “The El Cajon Animal Shelter will enhance the adoption experience for East County residents!”
The Grand Opening ceremony will be attended by El Cajon’s Mayor and City Councilmembers, the project construction team, and other dignitaries. Festivities for the Grand Opening will also include self-guided tours, face painting, balloon animal artists, arts and crafts, a photo booth and $5 pet adoptions. The first 300 visitors can enjoy a free hotdog and shaved ice.
The nearly 15,000-square-foot shelter includes: a state-of-the-art medical center and operating room, interaction areas for potential adoptions, a full-service grooming facility, and several large pet exercise and play areas. This facility is designed to allow for future expansion to accommodate the future shelter needs for the communities of El Cajon and La Mesa, but anyone is welcome to adopt a pet.
The El Cajon Animal Shelter is a proud member of the San Diego Animal Welfare Coalition, which ensures that any adoptable animal gets the help they need, medical or otherwise so it can be placed into a new loving home.
