January 4, 2016 (El Cajon) - A Go Fund Me site has been established to help the children of Mary Newbold Fa’anunu, a 34-year-old mother of six who was killed by a gunshot wound to her head on New Year’s Day at the family’s home in the unincorporated area of El Cajon.

Her husband, Hauati Fa’Anunu, called authorities to report that he killed his wife .  He has since been taken into custody by the San Diego Sheriff’s Department.

Thus far, the Go Fund Me site has raised over $44,000 in donations to help the children, ages 2 to 13, who have been left with no parent to care for them.

Family friends posted notices of shock, grief, and warm memories of the young mother on the GoFundMe site.

Benji Roberson Jenks wrote, “Our family has known Mary since she was a little baby. She was an amazingly kindhearted person.

Julie Camacho-Musselman  posted that she attended middle school and high school with Mary. “I remember her beautiful smile and laugh. She was a truly sweet and gentle soul,” she wrote, adding, “May peace and strength be with her family.”
