December 4, 2011 (La Mesa) -- The Grossmont Healthcare District’s Dr. William C. Herrick Community Health Care Library, 9001 Wakarusa St. in La Mesa, will host a free seniors discussion group on “The Eight Sacred Truths to Healthy and Successful Aging” from 10 to 11 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 14. The public is invited to attend, and RSVP is not required.

The event will feature a presentation from Dr. Eric Z. Shapira, author of “A New Wrinkle” and founder of Aging Mentor Services, a consulting firm based in Montara, California.

“A New Wrinkle” is about navigating through the aging process and complicated family dynamics while remaining conscious about how to live a happy and productive life with dignity and good health in our throw-away society, according to the book’s website, www.newwrinklebook.com. Readers will learn how they think and feel in light of getting older.

Aging Mentor Services, www.agingmentorservices.com, offers a variety of services, including assessments, counseling, caregiver management and training, elder planning, patient advocacy, financial counseling and referrals.

Shapira practiced dentistry for more than 30 years in California’s Half Moon Bay region, and is a certified hypnotherapist. He has taught courses in “Healthy Aging” and “Successful Aging,” as well as courses in “Geriatric Esthetic Dentistry and Special Patient Care.” He holds master’s degrees in clinical gerontology from Norte Dame de Namur University and in health administration from the University of Phoenix. He is a board member of the American Association of Senior Peer Counselors, a bilingual senior peer counselor for the San Mateo County Department of Mental Health and a former commissioner on the San Mateo County Commission on Aging.
