May 9, 2024 (El Cajon) – The County of San Diego has announced plans to construct a new East Region Crisis Stabilization Unit and Recovery Bridge Center at 2000 South Magnolia Avenue and West Douglas Avenue in El Cajon. These services are part of an array of mental health and substance use services that are regionally distributed across San Diego County and will enable those living in East County to access the care they need.
The site is close to public transit and freeways for easy access, and other East County-based behavioral health services for connection to ongoing support or treatment.
The Crisis Stabilization Unit will provide immediate mental health support and treatment services in a calming setting to people with serious behavioral health needs. Services are short-term, up to 24 hours, including persons dropped off by health, safety, and law enforcement agencies as well as walk-ins for adults ages 18 and up.
The Recovery Bridge Centers will provide a safe, supervised, non-medical environment to stabilize intoxicated individuals who are putting themselves or others at risk, as well as substance use disorder services to assure continuity of care. Services are short-term and will only be provided to adults dropped off by health, safety or law enforcement agencies and those referred for substance use disorder services.
