January 25, 2017 (San Diego) – The San Diego County Democratic Party has elected Jessica Hayes to serve as the new party Chair, replacing Francine Busby, who held the leadership post from 2013-2016.

Busby told ECM, "I recruited Jessica, endorsed her early and fully support this change."

Hayes, an attorney, has extensive political experience. She served as a member of California Senator Dianne Feinstein’s kitchen cabinet and locally served two terms as Vice Chair of the South County region, where 23 of 27 race were won by the party under her watch in 2014.

She has worked on numerous campaigns and also organized studio employees with the Teamsters labor union.   After obtaining a B.A. degree in literature at the University of California, San Diego she obtained her law degree from California Western University, per her LinkedIn site.

She also has experience in business, building A-Z towing with her former husband; the company employed over 175 people.  She is the mother of two daughters, Chelsea and Brittany.

Her bio on the Democratic party website describes her as a “lifelong advocate for women, workers, and equal justice.“

In a letter sent to party members, Hayes praised Busby as “a shining light for women leaders everywhere.”

Hayes says she participated in the Women’s March last weekend in support of “the values we know this new president [Donald Trump] holds in contempt: equality, justice, freedom, truth, and inclusion.”

She pledged to dedicate herself to “organizing, pushing back against hatred and lies, and cultivating the seeds of change that we saw in the diverse, energetic, committed people who are making their voices heard.”
