March 27 (El Cajon) -- El Cajon Police Officers and Heartland Fire & Rescue Fire-Paramedics responded to reports of a bicyclist being struck by a vehicle near the intersection of E. Camden Avenue and S. Magnolia Avenue in El Cajon at 4:51 p.m. Monday.

Based on witnesses located at the scene, police say it appears the bicyclist violated the right of way of an oncoming 1995 Chevy Cavalier and was struck by the vehicle.  The driver immediately stopped and is cooperating with investigators.

The bicyclist was found to have a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage about his breath and person.  Preliminary indications are the bicyclist may have been driving his bike while under the influence of alcohol.  The cyclist was transported to an area hospital for medical treatment; his injuries do not appear to be life threatening at this time.   This investigation is ongoing and information about the victim is not being released.

Anyone with information regarding this collision is encouraged to contact the El Cajon Police Department Traffic Division at (619) 441-1632.
