October 8, 2012 (San Diego) – San Diego County residents have until a week from today to fill out an important public participation survey. SANDAG has extended the survey deadline to Oct. 15. The online survey, available in both English and Spanish, asks residents how SANDAG could best provide information and get input from them about significant regional issues, such as transportation, growth, housing, energy, sustainability, and regional planning.

Survey results will be used to develop public outreach programs for large-scale SANDAG projects, including an upcoming initiative to update the region’s comprehensive plans. They also will help evaluate the effectiveness of the methods currently in place for communicating with the public, as well as provide information on how to improve public engagement moving forward.

In addition to taking the survey, residents are welcome to email comments to Paula Zamudio at paula.zamudio@sandag.org.

SANDAG is working to update its Public Participation Plan, which establishes a process for communicating with, and obtaining input from, the public concerning agency programs, projects, and program funding. The strategies and tactics outlined in the plan guide the agency’s public outreach and involvement efforts for highway projects; transit construction and fare changes; smart growth, environmental, and planning efforts; growth forecasts; the Regional Transportation Plan; Regional Transportation Improvement Program; tribal consultation; and other initiatives.

SANDAG is committed to providing opportunities for meaningful public participation. More information is available at sandag.org/ppp.
