August 14, 2018 (San Diego’s East County) -- This week’s Destination East County includes Three Dog Night in concert at Viejas, Watermelon Days at the Oasis Camel dairy, night fishing at Santee Lakes, the Mighty Untouchables in Santee, the Ramona Country Fair and our own East County Fest at Mission Trails,

Plus, we’ll have a preview of coming attractions for September including the Barona Powwow, Sycuan Powwow, Ramona Grape Stomp, and the Julian Music Festival.

THREE DOG NIGHT IN CONCERT AT VIEJAS AUG. 18

Three Dog Night will perform live at Viejas Concerts in the Park on Saturday night, August 18th at 8 p.m. Since 1967, this rock band has recorded 12 gold albums and registered 21 Billboard Top 40 hits, including “One,” “Joy to the World,” Mama Told Me Not to Come,” “The Show Must Go On” and more.

WATERMELON DAYS AUG. 17-19 AT OASIS CAMEL DAIRY

The Oasis Camel Dairy in Ramona invites you to Watermelon Days August 17th through 19th.   Guests can enjoy some wet, wild and silly summer fun including watermelon themed games and contests, animal and bird shows, a magic show, camel rides, and of course, feeding those juicy watermelons to hungry camels!

NIGHT FISHING AT SANTEE LAKES AUG. 23

If you’re angling to catch some fish, you’re invited to bring a lantern and drop a line during Santee Lakes’ next night fishing event on Thursday, August 23rd from 5 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. The night fishing will be available on lakes 1 through 4.

MIGHTY UNTOUCHABLES IN SANTEE AUG. 23

The Mighty Untouchables will wind up Santee’s Summer Concert series on August 23rd with variety musical entertainment from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Town Center Community Park East.

 RAMONA COUNTRY FAIR AUG. 23-26

The Ramona Country Fair offers four days of fun August 23 through 26 at the Ramona Outdoor Community Center (421 Aqua Lane Ramona).  The fair includes carnival rides, Midway-style games, western shows, contests, vendors, food and more.

This year’s fair will also feature a magic show, medieval demonstrations, a Gong Show and a wine festival.  Find details at www.RamonaChamber.com.

EAST COUNTY FEST AUG. 25

East County Magazine invites you to celebrate our 10th anniversary at East County Fest on August 25th at the beautiful Mission Trails Regional Park visitor center.  The evening event will include tastings from top restaurants and wineries across East County as well as live music, art, artisans, authors and stargazing.

The festival runs from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. with a VIP reception at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are required for East County Fest, with proceeds benefitting East County Magazine’s nonprofit news in the public interest and the East County Wildfire & Emergency Alerts.

BARONA POWWOW AUG. 31-SEPT. 2

The annual Barona Powwow will be held August 31st through September 2nd at the Barona Sports Park on the Barona reservation. Native American dancers and drummers from across the nation come to participate in competitions at the powwow, where you can also find a wide variety of Native American crafts, jewelry, and foods available for purchase.

JULIAN GRAPE STOMP FESTA SEPT. 1

The Julian Grape Stomp Festa invites you to kick off your shoes and squish grapes beneath your feet at the 22nd annual event on September 1st from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Menghini Winery in Julian. Taste wines from multiple wineries as well as food and drinks from a variety of local establishments.

There will also be live music, Bocce ball, and dancing at this party to remember, as well as a VIP event complete with pig roast.

SYCUAN POW-WOW SEPT. 7-9

The Sycuan band of the Kumeyaay nation will host its annual powwow September 7th, 8th and 9th at the pow-wow grounds in front of the Sycuan Casino at 6677 Dehesa Road, that’s located on the Sycuan Reservation in unincorporated El Cajon.

RAMONA GRAPE STOMP SEPT. 8

The Ramona Grape Stomp invites you to come squish grapes in a stomping competition, taste local wines, bid on silent auction items and shop at more than 40 local crafters and vendors. The Ramona Grape Stomp will be held on September 8th from 12 to 5 p.m. at the Ramona Outdoor Community Center (421 Aqua Lane) in Ramona.

JULIAN MUSIC FESTIVAL SEPT. 15

The 49th annual Julian Music Festival will celebrate the end of summer at Menghini Winery in Julian on Saturday, September 15th from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.  This year’s festival will feature a variety of musical genres including Americana, contemporary jazz, folk and more.
