November 12, 2015 (San Diego's East County)--This week’s Destination East County includes a banjo jam at Grossmont Center, a famed harmonica performer in Ramona, a western dinner theater show in El Cajon, and a storytelling celebration in Santee.

Plus we’ll have previews of coming attractions including the Mother Goose Parade, Pomegranate Days at the Oasis Camel Dairy, and a holiday music festival at Parkway Plaza.

THIS WEEKS MAJOR ATTRACTIONS

 

GUITAR CENTER “LOCALS ONLY” CONCERT AT GROSSMONT CENTER NOV. 14

On Saturday, November 14th, Guitar Center will present live music in a “Locals Only” concert at Grossmont Center shopping center in La Mesa.  The event runs from 12 noon to 6 p.m. and will feature local bands, DJs and a banjo jam!

The fun begins at noon with DJ Raji Rabbit, followed by performances by alt rock band Arms Away and Unsteady.  The Deering Banjo Jam runs from 3 to 4 p.m., followed by singer/songwriter Raelee Nicole, who we’ve interviewed here on the East County Magazine Radio show, at 4 p.m.  The evening rounds out with DJ Goose Mavrk and Social Club, an alternative rock group. THE RAMONA CONCERT ASSOCIATION PRESENTS THE ROBERT BONFIGLIO HARMONICA TRIO NOVEMBER 14

Robert Bonfiglio regularly performs with the world’s top orchestras and symphonies. Called “the Paganini of the Harmonica” by the Los Angeles Times, Bonfiglio dazzles audiences worldwide with his constant reinvention of the harmonica. His trio, which includes guitar and an electric 7-string violin along with harmonica, will perform classical, blues and jazz. Robert has appeared on CBS Sunday Morning, the Today Show and the shows of Larry King and Regis and Kathy Lee. (Check out his website. )

CIRCLE PLAYERS PRESENT "WRANGLER AT RED MOUNTAIN RANCH" NOV. 13-14

The Circle Players of El Cajon will be performing “Wrangle at Red Mountain Ranch” November 13th and 14th at 7:00pm and November 15th at 2:00pm.  This mystery dinner theatre is set at a dude ranch and  attendees are encouraged to wear their western attire and have a rip-roarin’ good time!  Performances will be held at Richardson Hall, 551 Farragut Circle in El Cajon.

TELLEBRATION OCT. 14 IN SANTEE

Tellabration is a global celebration of the art of oral storytelling.  A smorgasbord of stories is awaiting you told by some of San Diego’s best professional tellers representing the Storytellers of San Diego  presenting traditional folk tales, literary works and original stories on Saturday, November 14th at the Santee Summit Universalist Unitarian Fellowship (8778 Cottonwood Ave. #1) in Santee. NOW FOR A PREVIEW OF COMING ATTRACTIONS…

MOTHER GOOSE PARADE NOV. 21 IN EL CAJON

The Annual Mother Goose Parade, always the weekend before Thanksgiving, will be Saturday, November 21 at 10:00 a.m. The parade includes over 100 colorful and exciting parade entries, such as floats, marching bands, giant helium balloons, clowns, eloquent equestrians, special guests, and of course Santa Claus at the end of the parade. 

The route begins at East Main Street and Ballantyne, traveling westbound on East Main Street down to Johnson Avenue, ending at Plaza mall where the Motther Goose Carnival will be held in the southwest corner of the mall.  For more information visit the Mother Goose Parade website at www.mgpelcajon.com.

POMEGRANATE DAYS AT THE OASIS CAMEL DAIRY NOV. 27-29

One of East County’s most unique holiday traditions is Pomegranate Days at the Oasis Camel Dairy in Ramona.  This year, Pomegranate Days will be held the weekend after Thanksgiving, November 27th through 29th.

You can feed pomegranates to camels, enjoy camel rides for kids ages 3-14, watch a turkey stampede and a tropical bird show, and new this year,  see dazzling circus performers as the high-flying McCandles family brings their aerial show to the site.  You can also buy holiday gift items such as Camel Milk Bath Bombs. HOLIDAY MUSIC FESTIVAL AT PARKWAY PLAZA NOV. 28-DEC. 23

Parkway Plaza will host a Holiday Music Festival that’s free for the community from Saturday, November 28th through Wednesday, December 23.  The Tinseltones will open the concert series on the Macy’s Stage November 28th

After that, concerts will continue each Saturday until Christmas from 1 to 5 p.m. with performances by the Southwestern College Big Band and Jazz Improvisation Ensemble December 5th, the Fiddle Cats on December 12th and the Salvation Army Brass Band December 19th.

Additional musical performances on saxophone and violin will be staged Christmas week at a stage by the Carousel inside the mall. For details you can visit ShoppingParkwayPlaza.com.
