February 9, 2012 (Alpine) –At 8:15 p.m. tonight, Sheriff’s dispatch confirmed that a suspicious device has been found at the Viejas Outlet Center, 5000 Willows Road in Alpine.  The Sheriff’s Bomb and Arson squad was dispatched and found the device to be harmless.

"Out of an abundance of caution, we evacuated the outlet center," Robert Scheid, Viejas spokesman told ECM.

The device was actually several items that include pipe material, wire from a former radio station live feed, and an old water tank hooked to fence near large water storage tanks behind artificial rocks near the freeway.  "We're not sure if someone was purposely making it look like some device, or just piling stuff together and didn’t realize what it might look like," Scheid said.

Sheriff's officials have cleared the incident and the Outlet Center will reopen tomorrow.
