December 14, 2011 (San Diego’s East County) – Sheriff’s deputies from Poway responded to a three-car traffic collision last night at 7:09 p.m. on Highway 67, a half-mile south of Poway Road. The accident has left two with serious injuries.

According to Deputy M. Karo, a preliminary investigation found that the driver of a large van traveling northbound “became distracted and drifted into the southbound traffic lane, sideswiping a truck towing a trailer that was traveling southbound.”  The van’s driver swerved back into the northbound lane and then over-corrected, again crossing the line directly in front of a southbound sedan.

“The van collided with the right front end of the sedan,” said Deputy Karo. The sedan’s driver and passenger were transported to a hospital with serious injuries, though the injuries do not appear life-threatening. The driver of the large passenger van was also transported to a hospital but released a short time later. The driver of the truck that was sideswiped was not injured.

Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in the collision; an investigation is ongoing.
