March 1, 2010 (San Diego’s East County) - Timing is everything. Each month offers unique buying opportunities and may be the best time of year to buy. Your savings per unit item may justify the purchase. As luck would have it, there are just a few items that are exceptional bargains in March and they are boats, frozen food, and coats and outwear, and air conditioning.
Boats are a special bargain as the new boats are on showcase at the winter boat shows and dealers are more likely to offer deep discounts to older models according to Thom Dammrich, the president of the National Marine Manufacturers Association. So if a new boat is one of the purchases you are planning, now is the time to go shopping so you are ready to enjoy your boat this summer.
March is National Frozen-food Month, which means there will be lots of sales and coupons so this is a good time to restock your freezer. Some foods can be stored for up to a year, check out food safety with recommendations on how long it is safe to keep items in your freezer at http://www.fsis.usda.gov/FactSheets/Focus_On_Freezing/index.asp#19.
Coats and Outwear like gloves and mittens are a bargain as retailers are moving the spring and summer items to the display racks. Now is a good time to stock up for next year’s cold weather. Due to our mild winter weather in San Diego, it is harder to find the selection of cold weather clothing that is available in many other parts of the country, but catalog stores are discounting as well. Now is still the best time to purchase at discount prices.
Air conditioning: “Common sense prevails in the air conditioner market,” writes Diane Ritchey, the editor of Home Appliance Magazine. “Think about when they’re most in use: May through September.” The weather is at its hottest when most people buy, and it drives the prices up, so now would be a good time to shop as demand is down which means pricing will also be lower and more negotiable.
Everything is timing and you can save a bundle if you shop on the off-peak demand times, as some bargain items are predictable at certain times of each year. Dollar-Wi$e Divas will feature the “Best Buys of the Month” monthly so you can plan your purchases accordingly.
