DRIVER, 80, KILLED AFTER STRIKING TREES ON SYCUAN RESERVOIR

August 22, 2018 (El Cajon) — A hiker on the Sycuan reservation came upon the scene of a fatality accident at 8 a.m. and notified authorities. 

According to Officer Travis Garrow with the California Highway Patrol, an 80-year-old woman died after the gold Lexus ES300 she was driving struck several large oak trees yesterday afternoon.  The victim was driving south on Sycuan Road around 2:30 p.m. when she continued past the pavement’s end onto a rough, dirt road.

The vehicle went down an embankment, striking the trees and killing the driver, who was not wearing a seat belt. 

The California Highway Patrol, San Diego Sheriff’s Department, Sycuan Police Department, Cal Fire Department and Sycuan Fire Department all responded to the scene.  The California Highway Patrol is handling the investigation. Alcohol and or drugs are not considered a factor in this collision at this time.
