January 27, 2019 (Lakeside) – A 27-year-old San Diego man driving a stolen 2003 white Chevrolet Tahoe died in a crash in Lakeside early this morning.

The vehicle was heading northbound on Moreno Avenue near San Vicente Avenue around 4 a.m. when the driver lost control and crossed the southbound lane, striking a tree on the west side of the roadway.

The impact caused the Chevrolet to overturn onto its passenger side,” says Officer Travis Garrow with the California Highway Patrol.  The driver was partially ejected and pinned under the right side of the vehicle.

Fire personnel extracted the victim from the wreckage, however, due to his injuries he was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Authorities believe that the man was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.

Investigators found that the Chevrolet Tahoe had been reported stolen back in September 2018. Officer Garrowadds, “At this time, alcohol and or drugs are believed to be a factor in this collision.”

This is an ongoing investigation. Anyone who may have witnessed or has information regarding this collision is urged to contact the CHP at 619-401-2000 or 858-637-3800.
