DUI CHECKPOINT IN FALLBROOK NETS ARRESTS & CITATIONS; MORE CHECKPOINTS PLANNED

June 8, 2009 (Fallbrook)—Law enforcement officials issued 19 citations at a driving under the influence (DUI)/driver's license checkpoint Friday in Fallbrook, also towing 16 vehicles. Additional DUI checkpoints are planned for the Fallbrook area, the San Diego Sheriff’s office confirms.

Law enforcement agencies from throughout San Diego County joined forces to conduct an AVOID - DUI Campaign Task Force DUI/Drivers License Checkpoint and roving Saturation Patrols in the unincorporated community of Fallbrook on Friday night. This crackdown on alcohol related crimes and violations targeted drunk drivers. Participating agencies included the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, California Highway Patrol, San Diego PD, Oceanside PD, and Coronado PD.

Over 700 vehicles drove through the checkpoint. Of these, 289 vehicles were randomly directed into the primary screening area. 32 vehicles were directed into the secondary screening area where 19 citations were issued, 16 vehicles were towed and 2 people were arrested for DUI. Additionally, roving patrols arrested 2 other motorists for DUI and issued several citations.

Funding for this operation was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
