November 27, 2023 (Ramona) – A 26-year-old man has been arrested for causing a head-on crash on November 25 in Ramona that killed a Ramona woman, 44, then fleeing the scene.
According to Officer Jared Grieshaber with the California Highway Patrol, the man was driving a 2019 Ford F-350 pickup east on State Route 78 when his vehicle crossed solid double yellow lines and struck a 2007 Ford Edge head-on. The force of the impact caused the Ford Edge to roll down an embankment. The woman driving the Edge died of her injuries at the scene.
“The driver of the Ford F-350 left his vehicle at the crash scene and fled on foot,” says Officer Greisheber.
A short time later, the pickup truck’s driver was arrested at his home in Ramona and booked into the San Diego County jail.
“This is an ongoing investigation; drugs and/or alcohol were a factor in the crash for the 26-year-old-male,” Greisheber adds.
The names of the victim and suspect have not yet been released.
