November 13, 2019 (San Diego’s East County) – The nonprofit  Leapfrog Group has released its fall 2019 ratings of safety at hospitals nationwide.  Among hospitals in San Diego’s inland region, only Alvarado Hospital received an “A” rating for safety. Sharp Grossmont Hospital, Kaiser Foundation Zion and Pomerado Hospital in Poway all received “B” ratings.

Grossmont missed an “A” rating due to infections in urinary tracts but had otherwise positive safety ratings.  Kaiser and Pomerado had trouble signs with infections in several categories.

Nationwide, 33 percent of the 2,600 hospitals rated received an A.  California had 91 hospitals that received an A, 63 got a B, 79 got a C, 22 got a D, and 2 had an F rating.

The Leapfrog Group’s ratings focus only on errors, accidents, injuries and infections. (Rread more about the letter grades here.)
