May 12, 2023 (San Diego) - Patrick Henry Patriots girls lacrosse is seeded seventh in the CIF San Diego playoffs. Tonight in the second round, they headed up to Poway to face #2 seed Del Norte.
Junior Kyra Evans struck first on a penalty shot, but it was quickly evened up by Henry, who took the lead with 20 minutes left, but the Nighthawks fought back and got the equalizer and the go ahead from sophomore Elise Cardall. Cardall flipped it over on a penalty shot to senior Mia Chambers, who potted another and another. Cardall and Chambers owned the Patriots in the first half as Cardall scored another. Freshman Eliana Reynoso got in on the scoring with a spin shot. The Patriots broke up the run with one goal, but Evans scored her second of the night. The Patriots continued to fight back, but Rachel Lee had other plans. The senior pitched in a nice pass to keep the Nighthawks ahead. Chambers got her hat trick to end the half and Del Norte led 10-4 after one.
It took five minutes, but the Pats netted the first goal of the second half. Cardall kept Del Norte ahead, however, and scored her fourth of the game. Henry answered with a nice rifle in and a penalty shot, but Chambers and Cardall kept the Hawks ahead. Henry tried to stay alive, but Del Norte potted two late ones to dash the Patriots’ playoff hopes with a 15-8 win. Patrick Henry ends their season with a 6-15 record.
