September 8, 2019 (San Diego's East County) - Here are this week's top East County alumni sports headlines:
 
September 7 - Baseball
 
Grossmont High alum Ben Brault started on the mound for the Pittsburgh Pirates as he pitched 5.1 innings, gave up six hits, six runs (five earned), two walks and struck out two as the Pirates were defeated by the St. Louis Cardinals 10-1.  With the bat, Brault went 1 for 2 with a single. 
 
Helix alum DaShawn Keirsey Jr. went 2 for 4 with one double, one run scored and one RBI for the Cedar Rapids Kernels as they defeated the Quad City Bandits 4-2.  The Bandits win the series two games to one.
 
Jack Stronach went 1 for 4 with a double for the Tri City Dust Devils as they fell to the Hillsboro Hops 5-3 and trail in the Northwest League Champion Finals by one.
 

Junior College Football
 
The Griffins of Grossmont College opened up the 2019 football season as they were defeated by Long Beach Junior College 55-24. 
 
Sharif Harris Legree:  9/25 for 148 yards, threw a 25 yard pass to Perry Steele (four receptions for 59 yards),
 
Jake Browning's 32 yard field goal
 
Jarius Burnett (19 carries for 82 yards) scored on a 36-yard touchdown run and Perry Steele contributed on a 55 yard run.  The Griffins fall to 0-1 and will be at College of the Canyons on Saturday in a 6:00 p.m. kickoff. 
 
College Football
 
Three East County players made headlines for Dixie State University located in Utah.  Grossmont product Alex Lillard recorded 11 tackles, Mount Miguel product Anthony Yarbrough recorded five tackles and Helix product William Payne recorded five tackles for the Dixie State Trail Blazers as they were defeated by Colorado State Pueblo 36-7. 
 
Monte Vista Product Noah Sol recorded two receptions for 47 yards for the Northern Colorado Bears as they were defeated by the Cougars of Washington State 59-17.  Helix product Jahad Woods led the Cougars with 10 tackles.
 
Helix product Isaac Taylor-Stewart recorded two tackles for USC as they defeated Stanford 45-20. 
 
Helix product Ezekiel Noa recorded seven tackles for Boise State as they defeated Marshall 14-7. 
 
Helix product Nate Stinson had five carries for 10 yards for Northern Arizona as they were defeated by the Wildcats of Arizona 65-41. Scott Young, another Helix product, registered four tackles for the Wildcats. Stinson also scored on a seven-yard run. 
 
Helix product Luke Holloway recorded five tackles for the Bengals of Idaho State as they defeated Western Colorado 38-13. 
 
NFL 
 
Mount Miguel product Cory Littleton registered 14 total tackles for the Los Angeles Rams as they defeated the Carolina Panthers 30-27. 
 
MILB
 
Helix and UCLA alum Jack Stronach went 1 for 4 with a double and RBI for the Tri City Dust Devils as they were defeated in Game 1 of the Northwest Playoffs 5-3.
