August 18, 2019 (San Diego's East County) - Here are this week's top East County alumni sports headlines:
 
August 11
 
Grossmont Foothillers product Ben Brault started for the Pittsburgh Pirates as he pitched 4.2 innings, gave up five hits, four runs (four earned), three walks and struck out three as the Pirates were defeated by the St. Louis Cardinals 11-9.  Brault didn't get the decision. 
 
Helix High School and UCLA Bruins product Jack Stronach went 2 for 3 with one single and one double for the Tri City Dust Devils as they defeated the Salem Keizer Volcanos 5-2. 

August 13
 
El Capitan Vaquero product Kevin Ginkel recorded his first win for the Arizona Diamondbacks as he pitched two innings, gave up one hit and struck out two as the Dbacks defeated the Colorado Rockies 9-3. 
 
August 14
 
Valhalla product Greg Garcia went 1 for 4 with a single and one RBI for the San Diego Padres as they defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 7-2. 
 
West Hills and SDSU product Steven Strasburg improves his record to 15-5 on the season as he pitched 5.2 innings, gave up seven hits, four runs (four earned), three walks and struck out four. With the bat, Strasburg went 1 for 2 with a single, one RBI and one run scored as the Nationals defeated the Cincinnati Reds 17-7. 

August 15

Jack Stronach went 2 for 3 with two singles and one run scored for the Tri City Dust Devils as they defeated the Everett Aqua Sox 9-5. 

August 16

Grossmont Foothillers alum Joe Musgrove started for the Pittsburgh Pirates as he pitched 7.1 innings, gave up four hits, two runs (two earned) and struck out nine as the Bucs defeated the Cubs 3-2.  Musgrove didn't get the decision. 

Kevin Ginkel appeared in relief for the Arizona Diamondbacks as he pitched one inning, gave up one hit, one run (one earned), four walks and struck out two as the Dbacks were defeated by the San Francisco Giants 10-9 in 11 innings. 
 
Valhalla and San Diego Toreros alum Jeff Houghtby went 1 for 3 with one single and one RBI for the Salem Keizer Volcanos as they were defeated 9-2 by the Eugene Emeralds. 
 
Ben Brault started for the Pittsburgh Pirates as his record was lowered to 3-2 on the season and pitched seven innings, gave up two hits, one run (one earned), one walk and struck out eight as the Pirates were defeated by the Chicago Cubs 2-0. 
 
Kevin Ginkel appeared in relief for the Arizona Diamondbacks as he pitched one inning, gave up one hit and struck out one batter as the Dbacks were defeated by the San Francisco Giants 11-6. 
 
Granite Hills alum Travis Taijeron went 1 for 3 with a single for the Syracuse Mets as they defeated the Norfolk Tides 7-1.
