August 25, 2019 (San Diego's East County) - Here are this week's top East County alumni sports headlines, as well as some high school football news:

August 19

Helix product DeShawn Keirsey went 0 for 2 with three walks, one RBI and two runs scored for the Cedar Rapids Kernels as they defeated the Quad City River Bandits 6-2.

Vahalla product alum Greg Garcia went 2 for 4 with two singles and scored two runs for the San Diego Padres as they defeated the Cincinnati Reds 3-2. 

August 20
 
DeShawn Keirsey went 1 for 4 with a single and one run scored for the Cedar Rapids Kernels as they were defeated by the Quad City River Bandits 9-3.
 
West Hills product Stephen Strasburg started for the Washington Nationals as he pitched seven innings, gave up four hits, no runs, one walk and struck out six as the Nats fell to the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-1 but didn't get the decision.  Grossmont High product Ben Brault pinch ran for catcher Gene Stallings and scored one of the four runs for the Pirates. 
 
El Capitan product Kevin Ginkel appeared in relief for the Arizona Diamondbacks as he pitched one inning and struck out one batter as the Dbacks were defeated by the Colorado Rockies 8-7. 
 
Valhalla alum Jeff Houghtby went 1 for 4 with a single for the Salem Keizer Volcanoes as they defeated the Boise Hawks 5-3. 
 
Helix and UCLA product Jack Stronach went 1 for 4 with a double, two RBIs and one run scored for the Tri City Dust Devils as they defeated the Vancouver Canadians 4-2. 
 
August 21
 
Greg Garcia went 1 for 4 with a double and rbi for the San Diego Padres as they were defeated by the Cincinnati Reds 4-2. 
 
Grossmont High alum Joe Musgrove started for the Pittsburgh Pirates as he pitched five innings, gave up seven hits, six runs (five earned), two walks and struck out one.  Musgrove's record falls to 8-12 as the Pirates were defeated by the Washington Nationals 11-1.
 
Granite HIlls product Travis Taijeron went 1 for 2 with a single and an RBI for the Syracuse Mets as they defeated the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs 2-1.
 
Jeff Houghtby went 1 for 2 with a solo home run for the Salem Keizer Volcanoes as they defeated the Boise Hawks 4-1.
 
August 22
 
Ben Brault appeared on the mound for the Pirates as he pitched six innings, gave up seven hits, two runs (two earned), one walk and struck out four as his record falls to 3-3 as the Pirates were defeated by the Washington Nationals 7-1. 
 
Jeff Houghtby went 1 for 4 with a triple and scored one run for the Salem Keizer Volcanos as they defeated the Boise Hawks 6-5. 
 
August 23
 
Granite Hills product Travis Taijeron went 1 for 4 with a double, one RBI and one run scored for the Syracuse Mets as they defeated the Rochester Red Wings 5-1. 
 
Jack Stronach went 2 for 3 with two singles, three runs scored and one walk for the Tri City Dust Devils as they defeated the Boise Hawks 8-2. 
 
Travis Taijeron went 1 for 3 with a single along with one run scored for the Syracuse Mets as they were defeated 6-2 by the Rochester Red Wings. 
 
Jack Stronach went 1 for 4 with a single for the Tri City Dust Devils as they were defeated by the Boise Hawks 8-2. 
 
August 24
 
DeShawn Keirsey went 1 for 3 with a triple and an RBI for the Cedar Rapids Kernels as they defeated the Peoria Chiefs 3-2. 
 
Kevin Ginkel made an appearance on the mound for the Arizona Diamondbacks as he pitched 0.2 innings, gave up no hits, one run (one earned), one walk and struck out one as the Dbacks were defeated by the Milwaukee Brewers 4-0. 
 
Greg Garcia went 1 for 2 for the San Diego Padres as they were defeated by the Boston Red Sox 5-4. 
 
East County Football News
 
Eleyon Noah ran two touchdowns of one and two yards, caught a 65-yard pass from quarterback Kamryn Brown to give the Helix Highlanders a 28-22 win over Cajon High of San Clemente. 
 
Richard Harris scored two touchdown runs of 10 and four yards for the Eagles of Granite Hills as they defeated the Titans of Poway 28-24.  Eagles QB Justus McComb threw a 14 yard pass to James Johnson and scored on a five yard touchdown run.
 
Patrick Henry defeated Mount Miguel 40-34.  Jacob Laverdiere scored on a four-yard touchdown run, connected on four touchdown passes of nine yards to Kojo Miller, 34 and 15 yards to Jahiem Allen Pompey and 14 yards to Joe Castillo.
 
One touchdown run each by Clarence Johnson of 72 yards and Damarius Hyde of 71 paced El Cajon Valley to a 13-7 win over Francis Parker
