June 9, 2019 (San Diego's East County) - East County alumni made waves this week in the MLB and some were even drafted.  Here's this week's East County sports wrapup.
 
June 2
 
Travis Taijeron out of Granite Hills High went 1 for 4 with a single and an RBI for the Syracuse Mets as they were defeated by the Pawtucket Red Sox 7-5.

Former Helix Highlander Jack Stronach, playing for the top ranked Bruins of UCLA, went 3 for 4 with a triple and two singles as they defeated Loyola Marymount 6-1 in an elimination game. 
 
Two Christian Patriots swung the bats for different colleges:  Kyle Stowers for Stanford and Chase Wehsener for Baylor.  Stowers went 2 for 5 with a home run, a single and two RBIs for Stanford as they defeated the Hornets of Sacramento State 12-3. Against the Bulldogs of Fresno State, Stowers went 1 for 5 with a single, one RBI and scored one run. Former Patriot teammate Chase Wehsener went 1 for 2 with a single and RBI for Baylor as they fell 11-6 to UCLA.  Baylor finishes their season. 
 
June 3
 
Former Valhalla Norseman Greg Garcia went 1 for 4 with a single and scored one run for the San Diego Padres as they defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 8-2. 
 
Travis Taijeron went 2 for 5 with a triple and a single with one RBI and one run scored for the Syracuse Mets as they defeated the Rochester Red Wings 5-4. 
 
Kyle Stowers went 1 for 4 with a double and a run scored for Stanford as they defeated Fresno State 9-7. 
 
June 4
 
West Hills alum Stephen Strasburg made a start on the mound as his record improves to 6-3 for the Washington Nationals as he pitched five innings and gave up five hits five runs (five earned), three walks and struck out six as they defeated the Chicago White Sox 9-5. 
 
Former Grossmont Foothiller Ben Brault started for the Pittsburgh Pirates as he pitched four innings and gave up five hits, two runs (one earned), three walks and struck out three, but didn't get the loss for the Bucs as they were defeated by the Atlanta Braves 12-5. 
 
Greg Garcia went 1 for 4 with a double and four RBIs for the San Diego Padres as they fell 9-6 to the Philadelphia Phillies. 
 
Travis Taijeron went 1 for 4 with a single for the Syracuse Mets as they lost to the Rochester Red Wings 9-3. 
 
June 5
 
Former Grossmont Foothiller alum Joe Musgrove started for the Pittsburgh Pirates as his record goes to 4-6 on the season as he pitched eight innings and gave up five hits, three runs (three earned) one walk and struck out six as they defeated the Atlanta Braves 7-4. 
 
June 6
 
The Syracuse Mets were defeated by the Rochester Red Wings 9-0 as Travis Taijeron went 1 for 3 with a single in the game. 
 
Former Ramona Bulldog Gage Canning went 1 for 4 with a double for the Potomac Nationals as they defeated the Lynchburg Hillcats 6-0. 
 
June 7
 
Greg Garcia went 2 for 3 with one run scored for the San Diego Padres as they defeated the Washington Nationals 5-4.
 
Gage Canning went 2 for 4 with one double and one single with an RBI for the Potomac Nationals as they fell to the Lynchburg Hillcats 5-1. 
 
June 8
 
Greg Garcia went 1 for 4 for the San Diego Padres as they lost to the Washington Nationals 4-1. 
 
Travis Taijeron went 0 for 3 with one run scored and one walk for the Syracuse Mets as they lost to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Rail Riders 7-5.
