September 29, 2019 (San Diego's East County) - Here are this week's top East County alumni sports headlines:
 
September 24
 
El Capitan product Kevin Ginkel improves his record to 3-0 for the Arizona Diamondbacks as he pitched one inning, gave up one hit and struck out one batter in a 19-inning ballgame as the Dbacks defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 3-2. 
 
Women's College Soccer 
 
Grossmont 3, Palomar 1:  the Griffins of Grossmont College behind the two goal performance of Maya Mozo and one goal by Carli Reese defeated the Comets of Palomar by a 3-1 score. 
 

September 25
 
Valhalla standout Greg Garcia went 2 for 4 with two singles and scored two runs for the San Diego Padres as they were defeated by the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-4. 
 
September 26
 
West Hills standout Stephen Strasburg improves his record to 18-6 for the Washington Nationals as he pitched six innings, gave up four hits, one run (one earned) and struck out 10 as the Nats defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 6-3.
 
Grossmont standout Joe Musgrove appeared on the mound for the Pittsburgh Pirates as he pitched six innings, gave up three hits, three runs (two earned), two walks and struck out eight. Musgrove's record improves to 11-12 as the Bucs defeated the Chicago Cubs 9-5. 
 
September 27
 
HS Football
 
Elelyon Noa's three touchdown runs of three, five and 70 yards paced the Highlanders of Helix Charter to a 42-17 score over Oaks Christian. 
 
Steele Canyon 45, Mira Mesa 0:  Jeremy Mendez-gal:  three yard touchdown run.
 
Santana 42, Vincent Memorial 0:  Santana QB Nathan Temple:  14 completions out of 18 attempts for 218 yards and scored two touchdowns. 
 
Madison 34 Grossmont 13:  Grossmont QB Jaime Odom:  16 completions out of 33 attempts for 143 yards and rushed for 118 yards scored on an 11 yard run.  Odom now has 1,372 passing yards this season and 5,509 for his career. He is the third Grossmont quarterback in the past 10 years to pass for more than 5,000 career yards. Anthony Lawrence is the record-holder with 9,079 yards, and Hunter Gaines totaled 5,123 in two seasons.
 
MLB
 
Grossmont product Ben Brault started for the Pittsburgh Pirates as he pitched five innings, gave up four hits, four runs (four earned), four walks and struck out 10 as the Bucs defeated the Cincinnati Reds 6-5.  Brault didn't get the decision. 
 
Greg Garcia went 1 for 4 with a single and scored one run for the San Diego Padres as they were defeated by the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-3.

College Football
 
Helix product Jahad Woods recorded 11 tackles for Washington State as they were defeated by Utah 38-13. 
 
Helix alum Scott Young recorded four tackles for Arizona as they defeated UCLA 20-17. 
 
Helix grad Luke Holloway recorded nine tackles for Idaho State as they defeated Portland State 51-24. 
 
Helix grad Nate Stinson:  six carries for 66 yards for Northern Arizona as they were defeated by Montana State 49-31. 
 
September 29
 
NFL
 
Mount Miguel product Cory Littleton registered eight tackles for the Los Angeles Rams as they were defeated by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 55-40.
 
Women's Soccer
 
Grossmont College defeated San Diego City 3-1.  One goal each by Carli Reese, Emily Pantoja and Basia Lamas.
