September 15, 2019 (San Diego's East County) - Here are this week's top East County alumni sports headlines:
 
September 10
 
Greg Garcia came in as a pinch hitter for the San Diego Padres as he went 1 for 1 with a single as they defeated the Chicago Cubs 9-8 in 10 innings. 
 
Helix and Stanford alum Jack Stronach went 1 for 4 with a single and one RBI for the Tri City Dust Devils in game three of the Northwest League finals, where they were defeated by the Hillsboro Hops 2-1 and trail two games to one. 
 
September 11
 
West Hills product Steven Strasburg improves his record to 17-6 on the season as he pitched six innings, gave up four hits, two runs (two earned), two walks and struck out seven for the Washington Nationals as they defeated the Minnesota Twins 6-2. 
 
September 12
 
Grossmont High product Joe Musgrove improves his record to 10-12 on the season for the Pittsburgh Pirates as he pitched five innings, gave up four hits and struck out seven as they defeated the San Francisco Giants 4-2. 
 
September 14
 
Kevin Ginkel came in relief for the Arizona Diamondbacks as he pitched one inning along with one strikeout as the DBacks defeated the Cincinnati Reds 1-0. 
 
Greg Garcia went 0 for 2 with three walks, one RBI with two runs scored for the San Diego Padres as they were defeated by the Colorado Rockies 11-10. 
 
High School Football
 
Jaime Odom's 15 completions out of 30 attempts for 277 yards along with three touchdown passes and receiver Robert Tucker (six catches for 116 yards) paced the Foothillers of Grossmont to 3-0 to a 52-28 win over the Eagles of Olympian High School.  Robert Tucker also carried the ball 20 carries for 275 yards and scored three touchdown runs of 35, 54 and 97 yards. The Foothillers will take on Valley View High School next Friday night with kickoff at 7 p.m. 
 
Santana 48 Sweetwater 0:  QB Nathan Temple:  four touchdown passes. 
 
Steele Canyon improves their record to 3-0 on the season as they defeated Bonita Vista 28-0.  Wesley Nealy rushed for 168 yards along with two touchdowns and 51 yards receiving.  Jeremy Mendez Gal:  eight completions out of 16 attempts for 141 yards.  
 
El Cajon Valley was defeated by Claremont 13-7.  QB Joe Malone scored on an 18 yard run for ECV. 
 
East County College and Pro Football Highlights
 
Grossmont product Alex Lillard registered five tackles for Dixie State in their win over Fort Lewis College 23-14. Mount Miguel alum Alex Lillard contributed with two tackles for Dixie State.  Helix's William Payne registered three tackles. 
 
Helix product Jahad Woods registered nine tackles for Washington State as they defeated Houston 31-24. 
 
Helix product Isaac Taylor-Stuart registered five tackles for the Trojans of USC as they were defeated in overtime by Brigham Young 30-27. 
 
Helix product Jamar Taylor registered one tackle for the Seattle Seahawks as they defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 28-26. 
 
Helix alum Scott Young recorded six tackles for Arizona as they defeated Texas Tech 28-14. 
 
Helix alum Ezekiel Noa recorded seven tackles for Boise State as they defeated Portland State 45-10. 
 
Helix alum Nate Stinson:  seven carries for 22 yards for Northern Arizona as they defeated Western New Mexico 55-21. 
 
El Capitan product Isaiah Capocia registered three tackles for the Hornets of Sacramento State as they defeated Northern Colorado 50-0. 
 
Mount Miguel alum Corey Littleton registered eight tackles for the Los Angeles Rams as they defeated the New Orleans Saints 27-9.
